Renewable energy is a type of energy generated from sunlight, wind, rain, geothermal heat and tides. Different technologies are used for renewable energy like hydroelectricity, micro hydro, biomass, solar power, wind power and biofuels. Renewable energy technologies are growing rapidly and they have to as we humans begin to realize our current oil supplies are finite.

According to a recent survey, 18% of global energy consumption now comes from renewable energy. Wind power is growing at the rate of more than 30% percent in many European countries like The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and Italy. Brazil has largest renewable energy program in the world which consists largely of the production of ethanol fuel from sugar canes.

Some multinational countries including Sharp, General Electric, Royal Dutch Shell and BP are investing heavily in the renewable energy sector. Climate changes and the world’s economy are two major factors in high fuel prices. Some of the major renewable energy sources are as follows;

Water power
Energy in water can be used since water is much denser than air. The slow stream of water can produce good amount of energy.

Wind Power
Airflow can be used to run the windmills. Offshore places contribute substantial more energy.

Solar energy
The solar energy is collected from the sunlight and it is used in many ways like it generates electricity using the photovoltaic solar cells, generate electricity using concentrated solar power and generate electricity using solar power satellites.
